Drama Blog 2

1. Voice Projection (vocal variety)
I feel that based on the video shown above and what I could hear when I was performing on stage, that my group's vocal variety was very good. We made sure to articulate and made sure that the audience could hear every line. Whether it was the baby making noise, we still made sure that Kendall and I could be heard, by either talking over Kestrel or having her soften her voice when we had to talk. We also waited for the audience to stop laughing before we could move onto the next line, so that they wouldn't miss anything.

2. Blocking (use of stage)
I think that my group used the stage up to it's full potential and weren't stuck in one corner the whole time. In the beginning we used the whole of upstage when I was going through immigration and onto the flight. We used center center stage when we were in the plane, so that everyone could see and hear us properly. We used back stage when Melissa was walking up and down the aisles as the air hostess giving people their drinks. Which adds up to us basically using the whole stage overall in our performance.

3. Use of stimulus (did the scene accurately reflect the starting point)
I feel like our skit represented the photo that we chose well, as you clearly knew that we were on a plane by the details that we had. We had the seats set up in aisles, we buckled our seat belts before the flight took off, Melissa was a flight attendant pushing the cart for food and drinks, and we also had the pilot on the speaker phone telling us when we would be taking off and when we would be landing. I feel like all of these details plus the part when I was in immigration and gave my passport to the officer and my ticket to the hostess, really made the scene's setting more clear.

4. Effectiveness of breaking the fourth wall
I feel as Melissa did a great job breaking the fourth wall when she walked off stage giving people in the audience drinks and asking them what they would like to have. I feel that when she did this she connected with the audience well and her part also wasn't to short or too long. But I feel that in the ending when I stood up on my chair and asked, "could this day get any worse", the audience might've gotten confused on if I was breaking the fourth wall, but really it wasn't supposed to be. But I felt like ending the skit with a question that the audience might've taken personally and into thought, might have not been the worst ending. I say this because it would've gotten them thinking and also I would end the scene strong with a connection with the audience. But we could've still worked on the ending. So maybe after saying my line I could like fall off the chair as the plane hit, or something like that to have a more clear ending.

5. How did you personally add to your group's performance
I feel like overall my group worked equally with coming up with ideas and how the skit would work out. I found the photo, and then Kestrel and I voted for the picture instead of the alligator one which Kendall liked. I also had the idea of like the horrible plan experience; so the crying baby, creep next to you who won't stop talking to you and gets to close to you, and the big guy who takes up all the space on your seat. Unfortunately we didn't have enough people to add in the big guy but we did have the rest. I also came up with the turbulence part where we started shaking our chairs and got really scared once Melissa announced that we would be crashing into another plane. I also came up with the background of my character, so she was visiting her grandmother because she had cancer and was dying. I explained this when my character was going through immigration, which Kestrel and I had the idea of to make the scene more interesting and exploit it to its' full potential by adding details.

P.E. Wellness Prezi

http://prezi.com/ze7awhvlddop/?utm_campaign=share&utm_medium=copy&rc=ex0share

Definintion of Wellness:
Wellness is an active process of becoming aware of and making god choices towards a more successful existence.

What Did You Learn?
I learnt that wellness isn't only working out daily and eating healthy, but also being happy, having positive relationships, relaxing and even sometime meditating.
Overall, I learnt that wellness is made up of five factors, mental, social, emotional, and spiritual. You should live in an environment where you can trust your peers and they can trust you. You are able to relax and have some free time, while still staying positive, concentrated, responsible, and trustworthy. You should have positive relationships with others who you can learn and grow from as a person, not someone who brings you down and makes you sad.

Feedback From Others:
My presentation's pictures captured the real parts of each category and helped students understand what having real spiritual or mental wellness real meant. They thought that I overall did a good job and didn't really have much to work on. I put 4 or 3 pictures per slide with one word to go along with them to help the reader understand what the picture was supposed to mean and why it adds to the topic/

You Can't Fly Into Flying

“He who would learn to fly one day must first learn to stand and walk and run and climb and dance; one cannot fly into flying” ~ Friedrich Nietzsche.

Flying, soaring, growing, and thriving, all things that teachers, parents, and principals talk about these days. Flying, something that isn’t that easy to achieve and something that not everyone will achieve. “You can’t fly into flying”, is what really stood out to me in  Friedrich’s quote, and made me ruminate. Thinking about the quote showed above, what do you think? Is flying and soaring all that is easy? Or can you only fly once you’ve tried and worked towards it? If you never have the patience, persistence, or perseverance to do something then how will you fly?

Friedrich Nietzsche, German poet, philologist, and philosopher, is right. If you haven’t walked. If you haven’t ran. Or if you haven’t danced. You haven’t flown.

When I was little I remember the time in Africa when I was 6 and wanted to soar through the sky. The only problem was that I was scared of heights. So before I could ascend into the sky like a baby bird taking it’s first flight, I knew that I needed to push myself. So I decided to climb one of the big oakwood trees in Cape Town, South Africa. I started walking slowly, then my pace picked up, running towards the tree. Finally a small 6 year old girl faced the big, bad, bulky oakwood tree. My feet carried me up the tree climbing higher and higher, further and further away from the ground. As I got closer and closer to the top of the tree I was even more terrified with every movement, but I knew that if I wanted to fly I would have to face this. Finally, I reached the top of the tree, so proud of myself, I stood up and declared myself the queen of Cape Town. Then wanting to pursue my dream of flying, I jumped off the thick branch and flew for only a couple of seconds before I reached the comforting arms of my dad.

While flying for those couple of seconds I felt free and wild. I knew that I could do ANYTHING that I set my mind to. I knew that if I wanted to be someone who people looked up to, who people could trust, and who had lots of integrity, I could. I knew that if I wanted to be smart, perform well on stage, and make the right choices, I could. It all can happen if you never give up and be patient.

Overall, after climbing that tree in South Africa I learned that greatness isn’t achieved by sitting at home and thinking about all the things you could do. Greatness is achieved by stepping outside your comfort zone and working hard towards your goal. You should never be too cocky to think that you can do anything without practice or determination. The best chess players play everyday, the best soccer players practice everyday, and the best dancers dance everyday. The unbeatable, unexcelled, and unexampled people started off like you and me, with a dream and passion that carried them to greatness, letting them fly.
