This is a Greek Myth. You should look for the authentic Greek terms, and vivid verbs. I really like this story, and that's why I chose to put it on my blog!
Confessions and Achievements of a Revenge Seeking Goddess
In Ancient Greece right next to the Acropolis the nymphs played many games, the sound of the lyres, a musical instrument, soothed the children, and the birds chirped to a wonderful tune, there lived a girl named Sophia. Sophia was beautiful, she had blonde silky hair, bright blue eyes, vibrant pink cheeks, the most trusting smile and the cutest dimples. Sophia was a very smart and creative fashion designer. She created jewelry, clothes, shoes, tapestries, and accessories. Sophia was known all around Athens, everyone loved her work and longed to have some of it. Sophia’s work was also quite expensive since Sophia and her family were going through a tough time and needed more money. Sophia’s family wasn’t always so poor, her older brother named Zeno had a well paid job, until one day he got killed by a hemlock, a poisonous plant.
Sophia’s brother, Zeno, has a story that is very important to Aphrodite and Hades. Zeno was tall, had blonde hair, had sapphire blue eyes, and the most vibrant red lips. Before Zeno died he had a wonderful life being a miner. One day he discovered stunning jewels and crafted the most enchanting jewelry. All the gods wanted his beautiful invention, but the two main gods who really wanted it was Aphrodite and Hades. In the end Zeno gifted his invention to Hades. The reason he did this is because he would eventually go to the Underworld and didn’t want his soul to be eaten by Hades’ the three headed dog, Cerberus. Aphrodite was furious and vowed revenge on Zeno’s family from that day on.
It was an ordinary day for Sophia, she was working in her family shop near the agora trying to sell vegetables and had a part time job of making accessories and clothing. She had been working a couple hours before dawn and now it was a couple hours after lunch, as that wasn’t enough Sophia still had several hours left. After the several hours it would be late in the night and that’s when she starts working on her part time job. Sophia went through the boring routine of selling vegetables in the agora and then working at her part time job everyday. This was the only way her family and herself could earn money for food, clothes, water, a roof over their head, and other practical needs. While Sophia was working she had lots of time to thinking so that’s basically what she did all day except from selling vegetables, mind gazing. She thought about many things like her brother, and if she could ever just stick to one job that she loved.
Eventually after years and years of thinking about it, Sophia decided to make her current part time job her full time job. Everyone supported Sophia’s decision, her mom, dad, and most importantly herself. Sophia was happy that everyone supported her, but it still was hard selling the vegetable stall to someone else. After lots of thinking and worrying Sophia decided to make her bold move, and finally start her full time job. I think that this was a very smart decision because Sophia started making more money than she would in selling vegetables, and everyone was happy. Sophia was happy because she got to wake up everyday and do the job that she loved. Sophia’s mom was also happy because now instead of hating to see Sophia depressed with having the responsibilities of taking care of two jobs, Sophia was less stressed out. Sophia’s dad was happy because now he could relax and not worry about getting vegetables for Sophia to sell.
Meanwhile up in Mount Olympus there was a small meeting for four gods: Athena, the god of wisdom, Aphrodite, the god of beauty, Hermes, the messenger for the gods, and Apollo, the god of light. Minds straining, all four of the gods gathered into the empty throne room wondering what Apollo was up to.
“Why have you called us Apollo? Is something wrong?” Athena questioned Apollo.
“The people have clamouring to me in their prayers about the sun. They are getting sunburnt and want something to protect them from the sun, so that they don’t get tanned and their skin color doesn’t turn darker while working in the agora and other jobs out doors.” Apollo complained in a whiny voice.
“So what do you want us to do?” All the gods asked curiously.
“ Well, Athena you are very smart, maybe you have some ideas on what we could create, and with the help of Aphrodite you could make it fashionable also.” Apollo concluded.
“ This is all a great idea Apollo, but why did you call me to this meeting?” Hermes questioned Apollo.
“ Well, you are very sly, so I would like you to watch over the the humans and make sure none of them get angry at us gods, they don’t start planning an attack or anything on us, and mostly importantly nothing bad happens to them because of the sun.” Hands wagging, Apollo pleaded.
“ Ok, Apollo, but you owe me one!” Hermes joked.
“ Thank you Hermes, now will everyone get to work this is not going to be easy!” Apollo demanded.
Everyone got to work, Athena started thinking long and hard sitting on her throne. Aphrodite strutted to her mirror and played with her hair and makeup trying to learn new techniques from her manual. Hermes scurried down to earth. Last but not least mind worrying, Apollo dashed back to his throne to check on the sun and make sure it wasn’t too hot for the humans.
After a half an hour or so Athena got an idea.
“Apollo and Aphrodite come here, I’ve got it.” Athena screamed.
“ Well what is it? What is your solution to this problem? Apollo questioned.
“ Yeah, I’ve been thinking that this invention could also regain my respect from the humans after Hades got the invention of jewelry from Zeno. So this better be good.” Aphrodite demanded.
“ We can put clouds on our heads! It’s light, comfortable, and matches with everything we could possibly wear. It’s perfect, except by the time everyone in the world gets a cloud to put on their head, there will not be a lot of clouds left, and it will also be hard for the humans to get the clouds.” Athena said as her excitement died rapidly.
“ I think this will be harder than I thought, maybe Hermes heard some ideas from the humans, I will call him.” Apollo suggested.
So then Apollo as quick as one of Zeus’s lightning bolts went down to the humans and summoned Hermes. Hermes was very red in the face and about to erupt with excitement.
“ What happened Hermes? Please tell us. Did any of the humans get an idea about this problem? Are the humans against us? Please answer me!” Athena vociferated.
“ Well, a girl named Sophia, had an amazing idea. She wove banana leafs together and created a hat type thing to put on your head. It looks quite fashionable, since she put the most colorful flowers on the hat. It also does the job of protecting your head from the sun quite well.” Hermes blurted.
“ What a smart...”
“Selfish brat!” Aphrodite interrupted Athena.
“ How rude Aphrodite. You first interrupt me and then you call an innocent girl a selfish brat. Where have your manners gone?” Athena scolded.
Heart beating, Aphrodite told everyone the story about how Hades got Zeno’s invention, and she didn’t. She whined, kicked, cried, and screamed through the whole time just like an infant. Her makeup even started coming off towards the end, since she cried. So then Aphrodite, a person who was very conscious of what she looked like, ran to her mirror and quickly put on an extra layer of makeup. Aphrodite was taking a long time to put on her makeup, so then the gods started talking. They started talking about the story about Zeno and Hades that Aphrodite told them. They all felt terrible for Aphrodite and they decided that they would do anything to make it up to Aphrodite. They also all agreed that Hades was very mean to not share the invention gifted from Zeno with Aphrodite, and that they would take Aphrodite’s side.
Just when Apollo, Athena and Hermes finished their conversation, Aphrodite was making her way back to the gods, lips clenched. Aphrodite got very embarrassed when she got back from putting on her makeup and reached the other three gods. She wouldn’t even look up. Athena felt terrible for Aphrodite so she tried comforting her, then all the other gods joined in. After Aphrodite had calmed down a little bit, the rest of the gods told Aphrodite a piece of good news that they were discussing while she was gone. The good news was that since none of them favoured Hades they decided to be on Aphrodite’s side and do anything for her to solve this problem. This only lifted Aphrodite’s spirit a little bit. She still was very sad and needed some more comfort. So they all tried once again to comfort Aphrodite, but the only thing that would settle Aphrodite’s anger was getting even with Zeno’s family. The only way to do this was to steal Sophia’s wonderful invention. After lots of arguments, persuasions, and chickening in and out the gods came up with the final decision that they would steal Sophia’s invention.
Together Aphrodite, Hermes, Apollo, and Athena started coming up with the best plan that would not fail, after all they were gods and Athena was known for being wise throughout the universe. Hermes decided to take the lead because he was the slyest and the best at stealing.
“ The first rule for stealing is to strike when no one is around or awake in the area that you want to steal from. So we would either have to strike late in the night or when Sophia and her whole family are all out, which will be rare.” Hermes demanded.
“Oh, interesting.” Apollo and Athena answered.
“ So we get to wear black or not? Because I have the cutest black top and jeans that go with these beautiful heels or to be more specific wedges.” Aphrodite questioned.
“ Yes Aphrodite, we do get to wear black, but nothing too fancy or uncomfortable. Now moving on to the next rule of stealing. The second rule is that you have to be very quiet and not destructive. This may be a bit hard because we all are quite big for Sophia’s house, lengthwise.” Hermes concluded.
“ Don’t worry, I know a spell which can shrink a person.” Athena reassured.
“ Ok good, so now that’s taken care of. The last thing that I need to go over is that we won’t be allowed to talk unless it’s very important, like if someone is waking up. Since we won’t be allowed to talk unless it’s very important we need to make hand signals. So the signals are: 1. We are reaching Sophia’s house. 2. Hurry up! 3. Be quiet. 4. Let’s go. The signal for ‘we are reaching Sophia’s house’ is a square. The signal for ‘hurry up’ is waving your palm back and forth. The signal for ‘be quiet’ is putting your finger onto your lips or putting your finger on the lips of who is talking. The last signal ‘let’s go’ is pointing to the exit with your index finger. Now remember these four signals!” Hermes scolded.
“ It that all?” All the gods questioned Hermes.
“ Yes, stealing isn’t that hard!” Hermes joked.
The final decisions that the gods made were to strike at night, meet in the throne room, after all the gods go to bed, and all wear comfortable black clothes. The rules that they made were not to tell anyone about this plan, especially not Hera, the mother of all gods, and also to memorize all the hand signals.
The night came and all the gods met in the throne room. Athena quickly did her shrinking spell on everyone.
“ O-calamba-sheli-meta-clof-sala-maz-shrink!” Athena chanted.
Then BAM! All the gods, including herself, were shrunk just so that they would able to fit inside Sophia’s house, but not so small that they wouldn’t be able to carry all the banana leaf hats. After they were all shrunken they finally were ready to strike.
The gods flew out of Mount Olympus having Hermes lead them to Sophia's house. They flew gliding in the sky for about five minutes till they found Sophia’s house near the Acropolis. Hermes did the ‘we are reaching Sophia's house’ signal and the ‘be quiet’ signal before anyone walked into Sophia’s house.
Aphrodite was the first person to step into Sophia’s house, she could just feel her amazing revenge bubbling inside her veins. Eyes gleaming, Aphrodite saw Sophia’s amazing invention. Aphrodite was very impressed with Sophia’s invention and almost felt bad for Sophia. While Aphrodite was having the time of her life getting her revenge Athena started worrying. Oh hurry up Aphrodite! Sophia please don’t wake up! Oh I never should have agreed to this. Athena’s palms started sweating, she started freaking out, and she also started thinking all these worrisome thoughts in her head. Athena then finally got the nerve to tell Aphrodite that she needed to hurry up. So she quietly tip toed to Aphrodite and tapped her on the shoulder, then she did the ‘hurry up’ signal which is waving your palm back and forth. Aphrodite turned around very annoyed with Athena, since she was getting her revenge that she wanted for years and years and Athena was ruining it. Eyes glaring, Aphrodite trying to be as polite as possible doing the ‘be quiet’ signal put her nicely manicured finger onto Athena’s red lips and shushed her. Aphrodite then got back to business while Athena got back to worrying. Aphrodite picked up all the beautiful hats and gave them to Athena, Hermes and Apollo to hold, then as this wasn’t enough Aphrodite wasn’t done with her plan, she still had the most important part left. The important part of Aphrodite’s plan was that even if Sophia wakes up to find her invention gone she could still create more using her creative brain. So to make sure that this doesn’t happen, Aphrodite put a spell on Sophia and everyone in this galaxy who knew about Sophia's invention to forget about it except Athena, Apollo, Hermes, and of course herself. After Aphrodite was done with her spell all the gods raced back to Mount Olympus.
The first thing that all the gods did when they came back to Mount Olympus was have Athena un-shrink them. When everyone was un-shrunken they charged to the throne room. Aphrodite was as happy as child coming back from trick-o-treating. All the gods were also happy for Aphrodite. All Aphrodite’s stress that she had been building up inside her body for years finally vanished. After a while when Aphrodite calmed down a bit she got Sophia’s invention and made many copies of them with sea foam from the sea (generously offered by a friend of Aphrodite from where she was born). Then after a few seconds there was a big POOF sound and there, sitting right in front of all the four gods were billions of banana leaf hats with flowers on top of them. Then after keeping some for herself Aphrodite gifted the banana leaf hats to the humans, except Sophia’s family. After Aphrodite gifted the humans this present her respect was regained, the humans loved Aphrodite even more and Apollo was free of complaints in his wishes from the people about the sun.
The next day down in earth Sophia was waking up Sophia felt lost in time. She sort of remembered something about banana leaf hats, but then she just thought that she must be going mad because there is no such thing called hats that she knew of. She told her parents her theory and they both agreed with her that there is no such thing as banana leaf hats, but they too remembered something a little bit about banana leaf hats. This lost in time problem sort of slowed down Sophia’s day, but this didn’t totally stop her. After breakfast and getting ready. Sophia got back to her job.
Meanwhile up in Mount Olympus, Zeus was looking over the humans and he saw weird things on their heads. So he called all the gods to the throne room, to know if anyone knew about this weird object, because all decisions went through him before they were made. Zeus first asked Poseidon about this but he didn’t know anything about the objects on the humans heads. Then Zeus asked many other gods till he got to Aphrodite.
“ Aphrodite, you do know the most about fashion and beauty, so do you know what these weird objects on the humans heads are?”
Someone save me, please! I need serious help right now. Someone, anyone. Please! Aphrodite suddenly started thinking all sorts of these uneasy thoughts in her head. All the gods were staring at Aphrodite and making her feel even more uncomfortable than she already was. They were all giving her looks and wondering what the objects on the humans were. Aphrodite could just smell the anxiety in the air. Since Aphrodite wasn’t good under pressure she cracked, like an egg.
“ Yes, I do now about these weird objects. I gifted them to the humans. I’m truly sorry.” Aphrodite confessed.
“How could you not tell me? How did you even manage to do this? You do know that there are going to be consequences.” Zeus scolded.
Aphrodite told Zeus the whole story with no details missing, except the one of the biggest parts that Hermes, Athena, and Apollo helped her. The reason she didn’t tell Zeus about the other three gods helping her is because it was her idea and her fault, and they were just trying to help. Zeus was even more furious with Aphrodite after he heard the full story. He was mainly ashamed that Aphrodite stole from a human, who was nothing compared to her. Brainstorming, Zeus thought and thought of what a good punishment would be. Until he came up with the best one ever. Aphrodite’s punishment was for her to marry Hephaestus. Heart shattering, Aphrodite took in the bad news. Aphrodite was very upset that out of all the strong and brave male gods she had to marry Hephaestus, the god of fire. From that day on, after Zeus’s realistic punishment, Aphrodite learned her lesson and never let jealousy or revenge get to the better of her.
